چکیده
The Myelin Repair Foundation is pleased to present this annual review of our progress toward achieving our goal of discovering and validating effective new treatment targets for multiple sclerosis. We were extremely pleased by the rapid progress of the team both in advancing frontiers of translational scientific research and demonstrating the power of the MRF Accelerated Research CollaborationTM model to achieve results with practical benefits. This report summarizes the key accomplishments of the Myelin Repair Foundation during its second year of research, completed on June 30, 2006.

متن کاملPiperine pre-treatment has immunomodulatory effects in hippocampal local model of demyelination
Introduction: Inflammatory processes has an important role in the Multiple Sclerosis (MS)’s pathophysiology. Therefore, hampering the inflammatory factors could be an effective strategy in MS treatment. Piperine (the main alkaloid of black piper) has immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study the pre-treatment effects of piperine on the gene expression level of inflammator...

Scientific Summary: CD11c DCs play a major role in both the initiation and progression of autoimmune inflammatory disease in the CNS. Since the CNS serves as the primary site where activation of pathogenic Th1/Th17 cells specific for endogenous myelin epitopes (i.e., epitope spreading), which play a critical role in driving progressive autoimmune disease, the current data suggests that the infl...
متن کاملThe repair Schwann cell and its function in regenerating nerves
Nerve injury triggers the conversion of myelin and non-myelin (Remak) Schwann cells to a cell phenotype specialized to promote repair. Distal to damage, these repair Schwann cells provide the necessary signals and spatial cues for the survival of injured neurons, axonal regeneration and target reinnervation. The conversion to repair Schwann cells involves de-differentiation together with altern...
متن کاملElectrophysiological and Histological Study of Lysolecithin-Induced Local Demyelination in Adult Mice Optic Chiasm
Introduction: Demyelination is one of the main causes of neurological disability. It is the end product of numerous pathological processes, multiple sclerosis (MS) being the most common cause. More than 70% of the MS patients suffer from optic disturbances. This disease commonly affects the optic pathway, particularly the optic nerves and chiasm. Several attempts have been made to produce a ...
